Whole House Remodels

Alameda Addition & Whole House

Alameda Addition & Whole House

This project was a major renovation and second-story addition to a small, single-story Craftsman home. The goal was to expand the home’s livable space while preserving its historic character and architectural integrity. The result is a beautifully integrated two-story residence that feels cohesive and timeless, blending old and new with craftsmanship and care.

The homeowners, a family of four, had outgrown their compact home, which had only two small bedrooms, one bath, and a cramped, outdated kitchen. They wanted to enlarge their space without losing the original charm of their Craftsman architecture. Living in the house during the remodel added complexity, requiring careful planning, dust protection, and respect for their limited living area.

We removed and rebuilt the back third of the home, expanding the main floor to include a spacious kitchen and breakfast nook that opens to a new deck and backyard. A unique walk-in storage space and loft solution maximized functionality for the small lot. The new second-floor primary suite features a large bedroom, walk-in closet, and elegant bath, connected by custom stairs and a cherished stained-glass window. Throughout, we maintained the authentic Craftsman style with custom shingles, curved roof hips, and detailed woodwork—ensuring the addition looked as though it had always belonged.
